I would love fishing with you sometime. I am full speed into the quest for Geese this time of year Which limits my fishing. Keeping in mind I am by no means qualified to give bass fishing advice here ya go; fished the A Pond during an afternoon shift. I presented two options; on 1 rod(light action, 12lb test braided) I had a ned-rig(color crawfish) on a red slow death crawl hook, with a 24-30″ 10lb.test flourocarbon leader, above that a chartoise and orange sliding bottom bouncer. A modified version of the infamous Lindy rig.(same set up with night crawlers for Walleye.) The second Rod(light to med action, 8lb mono) I used the same ned-rig plastic with the manuf. recommended weighted jig. this I tied directly to the line. I slowly drift/paddle around the perimeter of the pond working the shallows(4-10′) off the steep embankments focusing on submerged trees staying just off the bottom. Both LgMth were caught on the bottom bouncer set up, one on the south/east corner of the pond, the other on the west side near the boat launch. Bass seem to ‘gum’ vs gulp the bait and I did miss a couple of strikes on the plain ned-rig just below the rocks in front of the house. My other go to for bass would be a silver Kastmaster spoon or a shallow diving crank bait. During the retrieve change speeds allowing it to occasionally ‘free fall’ a bit. The idea is to replicate a weak or injured bait fish(shad) falling out of the ball. Anyhow, Looking forward to meeting you in person. Until then, keep the line tight and stay well. Greg 303-656-3094
Thought Id converse with myself. As though that’s somehow different. With weather warm I Hung up the field hunt for a last day Fishing. Arrived for the pm shift to hear the hot lure was what I had left at home. I hit it hard with what I had, by the EOD had released two LgMth a 6lb and 7lb. Both healthy fish, good fight on 6 lb test. Caught them using a bottom bouncer and ned rig. Snow’s flying, Colder weather, back to getting on some geese(s). Tips, tricks, comments, questions.
11/4/2020 – IT’S EARLY, technically it’s the 2nd goose season of the year, well kinda in some places. It’s great to get out, dust off the dekes, work on my tan(sarcasm for Nov. 75 degree blue bird days.) So far, 2020 I would rate as slow in terms of cooperation from either the Cans or Snows. Similar to years past, I have been seeing an encouraging amount of both light and dark birds albeit 200+ yds off the ground. The few groups that do show interest are reluctant to commit. Without the usual single, pair, or threesie breaking off, goose shooting has been very slow, getting goose ready is right on track!
P.S. My guide connections say they are doing really good. I get to go practice now.
P.S.S. Tricks or tips? please share here or in the field!
